Summer Training and News

06 Mar

Good morning!

I know many of you are getting ready to begin spring break next week.  Others may have a few more days to go.  In any event, spring breaks and spring fever are here.  However, with this crazy weather we have been having here, you might not would know this.  On Wednesday, it was 85 degrees at lunch.  Thursday we were closed for ice; and, well, we are down again with wintry weather temps still today.  Crazy, crazy! It is no wonder we have spring fever.

For those needing to complete online or face-to-face courses for endorsement, the RCU Professional Learning page is updated with dates and registration information.  We have added some last minute spring COOL sessions for those needing to complete COOL before June.  Here is the link. You will find registration and payment information at the bottom of the page.  Check the page often because updates are sometimes made daily.

Did you know that YouTube has launched a new app.  It features “family-friendly content” with videos in four general areas: shows, music, learning, and exploring.  If you are in a district that blocks YouTube, you might wish to consider mentioning this change to administrators.  It might open a new avenue for instructional content for you to use in the classroom.

NetSmartz has updated their website recently.  Visit the site for a wealth of information for educators, law enforcement, and more.  In fact the site has many videos and files that you can download and use with the students.  Look to see what would be helpful to you.

For those 6th – 12th grade educators interested in learning more about economics and earning a $2200 stipend, the MTE certification, and MTEnt certification along with getting the curriculum to these areas, you may be interested in the clinic being held from June 5 – July 2 in Jackson.  The Keep Calm and Study Economics:  2015 Title II Summer Institute will be hosted the Mississippi Council on Economic Education.  Here is the link for those interested in learning more information.  (This is not RCU sponsored.)

The Mississippi Geographic Alliance 2015 College Knowledge Summer Institute is available.  It is a program designed for middle school teams of a counselor with a 6th, 7th, and 8th teacher.  It will be held Sunday, July 19 – Thursday, July 23 in Biloxi.  The info shows no cost for lodging, breakfast, lunch, CEUs, mileage, and curriculum.  Here is the link for it.

Recently, I have had a few educators ask me about how to edit a pdf file.  Look at this link for How Can I Edit a PDF File?  It may be just what you need should you be curious.  Keep in mind though about any copyright violations and always give credit where credit is due.  Don’t claim something that is not yours.

As usual, Canvas has recently updated again.  Some new updates include changes to files usage rights, publishing a course, and gradebook toolbar.  Look at the links below for more details on these items.

Please remember to send any requests for help with Canvas, MyPLC, or other issues to the Help Desk.  You can contact the Help Desk via email or phone.  Email is  Phone is 662-3252-2510.

Have a great weekend!
