July Updates – MS ACTE, Fall Training, and More

09 Jul

Good morning!

I hope everyone is enjoying his or her summer break (if you are on break). Be sure to get plenty of rest though. School will be here before we know it.

After attending two really great conferences, I have returned to the office with some new ideas and things to implement. I look forward to sharing information with you over the coming months. Mississippi educators are at the forefront of education.

Before I share a few tips and sites that I have found, let me remind everyone that MS ACTE is around the corner. The dates are Monday, July 28 and Tuesday, July 29. Please make plans to attend. You will need to register in MyPLC for this summer conference. See the link below for further details regarding registration and the conference.

Craig has developed an app for those attending the conference. We trust that you will download this app to your SmartPhone or other device. Use the link below to learn how to install the MS ACTE app. Be sure to choose the correct attachment. One is for iOS devices, and the other is for the Android. Thanks, Craig!

Fall registration for professional learning is well underway. If you need training, please see the website for dates of specific courses. Here is the link.

Many of the online certification courses are filling quickly. If one of these courses is needed, let me suggest you register promptly. We look forward to working with you.

Let me begin now with sharing some of the information that may be of help to you. These next few are for counselors. As many of you know, I attended the ASCA conference last week and was simply amazed with the information presented. Counselors, you really do a great service for our students and have a lot to do in a short amount of time each day.

As much as we do not wish to think of something this terrible, many of our children are abused. Counselors, look at this Google Doc. It is a free coloring book you can download and use with students.

The First Lady Michelle Obama spoke last Tuesday morning. If you use the link below, you will be able to read the transcript of her presentation. Counselors are being heard, and changes are in progress.

The next link was really interesting. It discusses taking the classroom outside. When you click the link below to visit the page, notice the different curricula areas.

For those of you looking for grants, below is a link with several grant sources that are open. Deadlines are looming though. You will need to jump quickly on them.

Kathy Schrock posted a page regarding digital storytelling and the Common Core. It has standards, classroom ideas, practices, and more listed.

Lastly, look at the site below. It provides common Word shortcut keys. You might wish to print and keep handy.

Don’t forget that all questions regarding Canvas should be sent to the Help Desk. You can contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@rcu.msstate.edu. You can also call the RCU at 662-325-2510 to speak with a real person. 🙂

I will be in touch again soon. Have a great day!

Michelle
