I hope you are staying cool in this hot summer weather and enjoying your vacations. I cannot believe it is the end of June already.
Please remember that we are upgrading Blackboard July 2 – July 8. At this time you should not plan to do any work in Blackboard due to this upgrade. We will notify you when Blackboard is ready for use again. You can follow us on Twitter @rcubbtech or subscribe to our Blackboard system alert text messages by texting @rcubbtech to 23559 on your cell phone. You can go to this link to find out more about our text alerts http://craigstechblog.wordpress.com/2012/06/28/rcubbtech-alerts-are-here/.
Next, Craig and I will be traveling to New Orleans the week of July 9 to attend the Blackboard World conference. We will be presenting. It is our intent to pick up some awesome tips to share with everyone while we are there. If you have questions or information that you would like for us to check on, email us at BBTechSupport@RCU.MsState.edu. We will be glad to found out any information that we can.
With that in mind, we will be Tweeting updates from Blackboard World. You will be able to see pictures and videos as well as learn what is happening. This is a great opportunity for you to participate with us and learn how to use social media in your classroom. Follow Michelle on Twitter @RCUOnlinePD or Craig @rcubbtech.
You should check out the following link. It is a really good article discussing differentiated instruction with digital tools. The Common Core State Standards and their relevance to differentiated instruction is explained as well. There are some videos inside the article to watch that aids with understanding concepts in the article. http://literacybeat.com/2012/06/18/differentiation-tech/
Educators who are fans of Pinterest will be interested in the following from EdWeek. Grockit is a new social learning site that has a similar “feel” to Pinterest. You can attach YouTube videos, audio clips, and such on what they call “learn boards.” http://blogs.edweek.org/teachers/teaching_now/2012/06/resource_watching_pinteresting_idea_for_teachers.html
Craig, our Blackboard tech support guy here at the RCU, sent me this link. I thought it was a great opportunity for all of us to pursue. It has lots of grant opportunities and great resources posted for educators. Free money for our classrooms just for providing a lesson plan! http://www.digitalwish.com/dw/digitalwish/grant_awards
This will be my last informational email until the end of July most likely. I will be seeing many of you in Jackson the week of July 16 for MS ACTE.
Have a great 4th of July! Be safe and enjoy your holiday! Come see us at MS ACTE July 17, 18, and 19 in Pearl.
